About The Host Side
Real stories from the part of hosting guests rarely see
Guests usually see the finished result: beautiful photos, a clean home, a smooth check-in and a comfortable stay.
What they do not see are the decisions, systems and unexpected problems behind it—the midnight calls, maintenance surprises, pricing experiments, cleaner coordination, guest messages and hundreds of small improvements that make a five-star stay possible.
The Host Side is where we share that part of the story.

Hi, I’m Heena
I’m Heena Israni. We are short-term rental hosts in Goa, managing guest stays and property operations through Mango & Moon Hospitality and Bluepalm Stays.
Together with my husband, Pratik, I manage short-term rental properties through Mango & Moon Hospitality and Bluepalm Stays. Our work includes setting up properties, creating listings, communicating with guests, coordinating caretakers and cleaners, managing direct enquiries, solving maintenance issues and improving the systems behind every stay.
I did not learn hosting through a masterclass or by studying it from the outside.
I learned by doing the work.
That has meant responding to guests after midnight, visiting a property when an issue could not be resolved over the phone, experimenting with prices during Goa’s slower months, improving cleaning checklists after small details were missed, managing Wi-Fi and lock problems, and learning how much preparation is required to make a stay feel effortless.
Some lessons came from things that worked.
Many came from things that did not.
Both are worth sharing.
Why I started The Host Side
A large amount of hosting content online makes the business look simple:
Find a property.
Decorate it.
Create a listing.
Wait for bookings.
Real hosting is more complicated.
A beautiful property can still receive poor reviews if the check-in process is confusing. A good listing can underperform if the pricing is wrong. A minor maintenance issue can become a major guest problem when nobody is reachable. A cleaner can finish the work, yet one overlooked detail can still affect the entire experience.
I started The Host Side because I wanted a place to document these realities honestly.
This is not a website built only from theory or recycled lists.
The stories come from situations we have actually faced. The guides come from systems we have genuinely used, tested or improved while running real short-term rentals.
My aim is not to present ourselves as hosts who never make mistakes.
My aim is to show how each mistake, surprise and difficult day can become a better system for the next stay.
What you’ll find here
The Host Side brings together two kinds of content.
Real host stories
These are the moments that rarely appear in listing photos:
- A guest messaging after midnight because the water had stopped
- A door lock that seemed obvious to us but confused guests
- Cleaning details that looked fine in person but appeared in photographs
- Last-minute maintenance issues before check-in
- Pricing decisions that worked—and those that did not
- The small operational problems that eventually became permanent checklists
Each story includes what happened, how we handled it and what we changed afterward.
Practical hosting guides
You will also find detailed, experience-based guidance covering:
- Property setup and furnishing
- Cleaning and turnover systems
- Check-in and checkout processes
- Guest communication
- Caretaker and vendor coordination
- Pricing and occupancy
- Direct-booking operations
- Wi-Fi, locks and essential technology
- Listing photos and presentation
- Products and tools that genuinely help
The goal is to give hosts ideas they can adapt to their own properties—not pretend that one system works for everyone.
Who The Host Side is for
This website is for:
- New hosts preparing their first short-term rental
- Existing hosts trying to improve operations and guest experience
- Property owners deciding whether short-term rentals are right for them
- Small hospitality operators managing several homes
- Anyone curious about what happens behind a polished five-star stay
Whether you manage one room, one apartment or several properties, the challenges are often surprisingly similar.
Our approach to product recommendations
Some articles on The Host Side may include links to products, tools or services.
We will not create random product lists simply to add affiliate links.
Recommendations will be connected to a genuine hosting requirement, a real problem we have faced or a product category that is useful for operating a short-term rental.
Whenever an article contains affiliate links, it will be clearly disclosed. Using one of those links may earn The Host Side a small commission at no additional cost to the reader.
That support helps us continue producing detailed, practical content.
What The Host Side is not
The Host Side is not a promise of effortless passive income.
Hosting can be rewarding, but it involves responsibility, uncertainty, operating costs and ongoing work.
The results and experiences shared here are our own. They should be treated as practical examples—not guarantees that every property, destination or host will achieve the same outcome.
Local rules, guest expectations, operating costs and market conditions vary widely. Readers should always make decisions based on their own circumstances and professional advice where required.
The story is still being written
Our hosting journey began in Goa, but it is continuing to grow.
As we operate new properties, visit new destinations and test better ways of managing short-term rentals, The Host Side will grow with us.
We will share the wins.
We will share the mistakes.
Most importantly, we will share what changed because of them.
Because every successful stay has a backstory.
Welcome to The Host Side.
Real stories. Smarter hosting.
